The 2013 Rogers Cup was presented by National Bank and is one of the premier tennis tournaments played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 124th edition for the men and the 112th edition for the women of the Canadian Open tennis competition. The men’s event was held in Montreal from Aug. 3rd to Aug. 11th, 2013, while the women’s and legends events took place at the Rexall Centre in Toronto from Aug. 3rd to Aug. 11th 2013.
The women’s event, at Rexall Centre in Toronto, part of the WTA’s Premiere 5, (with the men’s competition being a part of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000), of the 2013 ATP/WTA Tour, had the top seed and number 1 ranked Serena Williams of the USA, win in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-0, in the final match over unseeded Sorana Cirstea of Romania, who had earlier beaten defending Rogers Cup women’s champion, sixth seed, and number 7 ranked Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in the quarter finals. In the stands cheering on Serena Williams in the final match was Canadian rapper Drake amongst the appreciative attendees at Rexall Centre. Serena Williams had beaten third seed, fourth ranked Agnieszka Radwnska of Poland 7-6 and 6-4 in the semi-finals while Sorana Cirstea upset fourth seed, fifth ranked Li Na of China 6-1 and 7-6 in the other semi-final match.
