Johnnie Walker Celebrates Robbie Burns Day @ Casa Loma (Saturday, January 24, 2015)
By: AJ Lam
Johnnie Walker, the world’s greatest whisky house known for its big flavours and expert blends, celebrated Robbie Burns Day with a 4 course Johnnie Walker scotch pairing traditional haggis dinner at Casa Loma, Toronto’s very own Gothic Revival 98-room castle, majestically situated atop Davenport Hill with a stunning skyline view.
The celebration of the day dedicated to Robbie Burns, Scotland’s national poet, began with delightful hors d’oeuvres and Johnnie Walker cocktails amongst the medieval ambiance of the castle’s armor, organ and fireplace. A procession of guests, led by the bagpipes of a group of kilted Scottish Highlanders, migrated to the dining area where a troupe of Highland Dancers entertained prior to a toast and a scotch whisky tasting lesson from the youthful but highly knowledgeable Mortlach Single Malt Scotch Whisky Global Brand Ambassador Georgie Bell. Prior to each delicious dinner course, she waxed poetically with the Johnnie Walker scotch pairing tasting notes.
After the ceremonial presentation of the haggis, the traditional Scottish sheep’s stomach pudding, with a Robbie Burns recital, the gathered aficionados were served the surprisingly tasty haggis, beautifully accompanied by fabulous filet mignon. Succulent chocolate desserts topped off the evening with Johnnie Walker Gold label.
Thanks to Amy Shanfield at North Strategic for the invitation to celebrate Johnnie Walker and Robbie Burns Day at Casa Loma.
