Every January, the Interior Design Show, a 3 day event occurs in Toronto, which showcases and shapes the industry for the year in North America and beyond. The 18th edition of Canada’s design fair celebrates leading brands, speakers and rising local talents. It placed a spotlight on Canadian-made products and small-batch designers, as well as International Guest of Honour Tom Dixon’s retrospective. We enjoyed the people, products and places that make the design world so exciting and inspiring. A morning preview was held on Thurs. Jan. 21st to the media to view the set up and the background behind this mammoth weekend show. And it didn’t end after the breakfast at the M.T.C.C. A night time party was also held to officially open the I.D.S. event. It was an evening of beverages, food and great conversation to kick off the I.D.S., 18th edition, in Toronto.

A little history behind the I.D.S. and how it started from it’s humble beginnings. In January 1999, the first Interior Design Show opened its doors to an enthusiastic design community, media world and consumer market. An important milestone for Canada’s design scene, the first show brought together 25,000 visitors, who came to see Wallpaper* magazine founder Tyler Brulé, Droog’s Gijs Bakker and furniture designer Holly Hunt. After 15 years, the Interior Design Show has become one of the most successful recurring design events in Canadian history and over the years has inspired over 660,000 visitors. Attendance has almost doubled since the show’s first year, and international designers and architects travel from around the world to be on the IDS main stage. The Interior Design Show has established itself as the ground breaking platform for design creativity, being innovative and inspirational, bringing together hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors each year.
It was a great weekend to walk around the M.T.C.C. to see the creativity among all the exhibits during the 2015 show. We look forward to the 2017 show to see how the I.D.S. organizers can top this year’s event.
