Friday, May 26, 2023 just after 12 noon was an exciting time by Roy Thomson Hall! It was the unveiling of the 25th year of Canada’s Walk of Fame. Eleven inductees were being honoured! A very special ceremony to celebrate the talent, the brains, ingenuity, business skills, creativity and entertainment of the best in Canada.
The host of the event was Jeffrey Latimer, CEO of Canada’s Walk of Fame. Councillor Ausma Malik, Ward 10 Spadina-Fort York spoke beautifully about the recipients.
Receiving a sidewalk star permanently placed on the sidewalks on the King Street West Entertainment District are – Keanu Reeves, Allan Slaight, athlete Damian Warner, Senator Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire and Bruce Cockburn recognized from the 2020 and 2021 group.
In attendance were Canada Walk of Fame Inductees Jully Black – Canada’s Queen of R&B, Soul and Ambassador for Women’s Empowerment
Graham Green – one of Canada’s most beloved and iconic actors .
Salome Bey (posthumously) Canada’s First Lady of Blues – her daughters singer SATE and Tuku were present
Ajay Virmani – trailblazing entrepreneur, Bret Hitman Hart – one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time,
Frederick Banting, Charles Best, John Macleod, James Collip (posthumously) = The Team which saved more than 300 million lives and continues to save millions of diabetics with their discovery of insulin. Present at the ceremony were Bob Banting, great nephew of Frederick Banting and Margaret and Charley Best, grandchildren of Charles Best.
The weather couldn’t have been better. A perfect warm, sunny day for this outdoor event. Clapping and cheers of respect for the recipients. Jully Black and Bret Hitman Hart enjoying the moments with fans by taking selfies, signing books or CDs and chatting to those who’d come to watch.Appreciation and gratitude were words Jully Black used.
