Ann Wilson, the voice of rock band Heart was front and centre on her solo tour with her backing band Tripsitter for a energetic two hour set. What a catalogue of music history and for almost fifty years the band Heart churned out iconic tunes that are stapes on radio and music lovers’ set list.
The evening began with “Even It Up” and her powerful voice was showcased in this vintage 80’s song. Some of the early highlights were her exquisite soprano vocals on her version of the John Lennon ballad”isolation”It was interesting to hear the audience around me and there were comments such as-“holy smokes, she still can belt a tune and those are some pipes.”

After a thirty minute intermission, a highlight of the second half of the show was- “The Immigrant Song ” by Led Zeppelin , as Wilson had the crowd off their seats during the second half of the concert and a surge of fans rushed to the front of the stage,Wilson was feeding off the energy from the crowd as she smiled and wailed the high notes ala Robert Plant. Ann Wilson and Heart always fits a couple of covers into their concerts. Her rendition are always true to the original and sometimes she takes a tiny different path but either way it always has the crowd dancing in the aisles and by the front of the stage. Her version of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California” were a great way to end the show, as the crowd were already dancing and the Bowie rendition added to the frenzy of the fans.

The concert included Heart classics such as: “Even it Up,” “ Straight On,”Love Alive,”” “Crazy On You,” “Magic Man,” “Alone”and “Barracuda.” The powerful vocals of Wilson on “Mistral Wind”, from the Dog and Butterfly album was a real treat and it had the audience in awe for this underrated song. Ann Wilson & Tripsitter have been putting the finishing touches on a new album of original material.Keep an eye out on the new release.
Overall an energetic and crowd pleasing concert. Barracuda, a fan favourite and the encore, concluded the show. We look forward to seeing Ann Wilson and possibly Heart touring again in the near future.
