Glen Matlock was a founding member of the Sex Pistols who co-wrote most of their iconic songs. His story is of the Pistols’ rise to global infamy. We had the pleasure of meeting him at The Punk Museum this week in Las Vegas. It was a guided tour by Glen himself and contained a ton of stories from his early days with the Sex Pistols to the present day.
There was a mention of his UK hit with the single “Rich Kids” in 1978. After the death of his replacement in the Sex Pistols, Sid Vicious, Matlock resumed bass guitar duties for subsequent Sex Pistols reunions,
While working at Malcolm McLaren’s clothes shop ‘Let It Rock’ in the 70’s, Glen met musicians Steve Jones and Paul Cook. Malcolm knew Steve and Paul were on the lookout for a reliable bass player and suggested Glen. The rest is history.
There were stories about Iggy Pop, The Damned, Blondie, Generation X with Billy idol He mentioned that he published the autobiography ‘I Was A Teenage Sex Pistol’ in 1990 and began rebuilding his musical career with his own band, The Mavericks who were a supergroup which included members of The Cult, Stray Cats and The Alarm. The band issued two live albums and were very popular in the UK. Glen formed The International Swingers and The Philistines were mentioned.
Overall, the hour tour was a journey back to the history of Punk legend, Glen Matlock. He could have continued for another hour of storytelling. It was an amazing tour down memory lane and if you have the chance to attend the Punk Museum in Las Vegas, it is highly recommended.
