The Canadian Film Fest 2024 was held at the Scotiabank Theatre in downtown Toronto. Opening night was Monday, March 18th and ran until March 23rd. The CFF was a busy, exciting week with Canadian films, documentaries and short films. Filmmakers were present at the screenings and Q & A took place after. A wonderful opportunity to meet the filmmakers and ask any questions … and, of course, a chance to congratulate them on their wonderful achievements!

Opening night started with a Red Carpet photo opportunity with all the filmmakers, actors and associates. The positivity and excitement were palatable. The opening night film was the Toronto Premiere of DOUBLES, a drama directed by Ian Harnarine. It tells the story of a Trinidadian street vendor who must travel to Toronto and decide if he will help save his estranged father from dying.
The short film XIE XIE, OLLIE directed by James Michael Chiang was shown first. What a wonderful way to start the film festival! The filmmakers and actors were present. The screenings were followed by Q & A. Founder & Executive Director Fern Euler and Festival Director & Head of Programming, Ashleigh Rains were joined by Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, who opened the CFF and greeted everyone warmly, praising the Canadian filmmaking community.
