Geoff Tate-“Big Rock Show Hits Tour” @El Mocambo-Wed.,April 3rd,2024

This is the writer”s first time to the world famous El Mocambo and his first concert after the pandemic, now journaling for the first time with the world-famous BK OnTheScene.

A series of firsts, as this was The Geoff Tate Band’s first and only Canadian date on this tour!

Having been refurbished by Toronto’s own Dragons Den celebrity and investor, Michael Wekerle, “The Elmo,” as it’s affectionately known, has become once again the latest in small stage extravaganzas.

While Tate has been used to larger stages in recent years, he was visibly heartfelt being that close to a eclectic and sophisticated crowd, who knew and sang almost every word to classics such as “Jet City Woman,”  “Operation Mindcrime,” and his hilarious story/banter of “Silence in Cincinnati”… (Silent Lucidity, of course).

The energy accumulated with a tight, solid, and diverse band, captured from America, Italy, Ireland, and Scotland, who clearly were fans and knew their way around the often complex changes and rhythms.

The crowd was revved and loved every note of “NM156”, “Walk in the Shadows”, finishing off with a perfect encore of this writer’s fave, “Take Hold of the Flame,” and BK’s fave, “Queen of the Reich”.

The answer to the question is Yes! The man’s vox is still powerful and clear!
Rock on!
