Director John Maggio tells the life story of one of the world’s most successful singer-songwriters as he takes a candid look at Anka’s life and career. Paul Anka was 15! Yes, 15 years old when he went to NYC and was signed by a record label. He was so young his parents had to go down to NYC to sign for him! And are we ever glad they did! A career spanning 8 decades and is still going strong is the wonder of this documentary film on Canadian-born singer-songwriter Paul Anka. Award-winning director John Maggio did an amazing job.
The documentary tells about Anka’s explosion onto the charts with his first hit “Diana,” which was followed by more record-breaking titles and his ability to write his own songs and songs for others. While he toured the world and performed for millions, he wrote for such well-known singers as Frank Sinatra, Buddy Holly, Michael Jackson, Céline Dion, and, yes, even Toronto’s own Drake. Anka’s ability to create songs across decades and genres has meant he’s touched several generations. All his songs are recognizable.
