The film Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band was a documentary on Springsteen’s life and musical career. Bruce Springsteen narrates this film of his band’s career, teaming up with Thom Zimny to investigate what produced such a close and long lasting group.
Twenty Grammy Awards, record-setting concerts, albums charting in the Top 5 in each of the last six decades, Bruce Springsteen has conquered just about every musical feat possible.
Road Diary: is a documentary of the band since the ’70s. He discusses the passion and energy needed for touring, as they prepare to hit the road one more time. Working again with Thom Zimny (Western Stars, TIFF ’19), Springsteen narrates this look at the singular alchemy that produced such a tight, enduring group.
The film begins with beautiful, rare images of the band members when very young, then moves forward to present day challenges as they prepare for their first tour in six years. They’re wondering if they can maintain the dynamic performances over 40 years earlier? Can newer members add freshness to the sound, and fill the gap left by the late saxophonist Clarence Clemons?
‘Springsteen could be called a poet, a master craftsman, a voice of his generation.’ As his fans know, he is a magnificent performer, and leader of one of the world’s greatest-ever live rock bands.
