The Doobie Brothers @The Kitchener Aud -Wed.,October 9, 2024

By Wayne Baggs

The Doobie Brothers delivered an outstanding performance at The Kitchener Aud on October 9, 2024, blending classic rock with their signature harmonies.

From the moment they hit the stage, the energy was palpable, and the band didn’t disappoint, kicking things off with fan favourites like their cover of Eddie Hollands’ “Take Me In Your Arms” and finishing the set with “China Grove.” The musicianship was top-notch, with Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons leading the charge on guitars, backed by a tight rhythm section that kept the audience moving. With Michael McDonald back in the fold the crowd also experiences the huge hits from that incarnation.

The band’s harmonies were a highlight, with every vocal layer perfectly balanced, particularly on songs like “Rockin’ Down The Highway” and “Long Train Runnin’.” Their sound was rich, and they played with the kind of precision that only comes from decades of experience. Three lead guitars, two percussionists, and four lead singers make one great show.

The audience was engaged throughout the show, singing along and dancing to the hits, but the band also offered some deep cuts for longtime fans. The production was simple yet effective, focusing on the music rather than over-the-top visuals. Overall, The Doobie Brothers proved they still have what it takes to command a stage, delivering a memorable night of timeless rock.
