Canadian Film Fest In Toronto – The19th Season! Mon.,March 24th-Sun., March 29th,2025

By Sally Warburton

For almost two decades, Canadian Film Fest has brought together the indie filmmaking community of The North.
With a solid dedication to Canadian voices, it showcases films from Canada’s filmmakers – telling stories taking place in Canada and from all over the world. During the CFF is a  series of industry events. These events bring together filmmakers and the film industry  for learning and networking opportunities.  Annually everyone gathers at the Canadian Film festival to celebrate Canadian film. There’s a wealth of filmmaking talent in Canada and this was obvious in the opening night films on Monday, March 24 at Scotiabank Cineplex Cinema which were brilliant.

Before the opening night films at Scotiabank Cineplex Cinema, there was a Red Carpet photo session.  On the CFF Red Carpet were Jen Pogue, Director of Industry. Ashleigh Rains, Festival Director and Head Programmer. Bern Euler, Founder and Executive of CFF. Among the other notable Red Carpet guests were Martha Baillie, author of The Incident Report – of which the opening film Darkest Miriam is based. Naomi Jaye, Director of Darkest Miriam. Nick Butler, Director of The Legacy of Cloudy Falls. Brennan Clost and Amanda Martinez – cast members of The Legacy of Cloudy Falls. Other actors and filmmakers were on the CFF Red Carpet as well.

It was a sold out event for the opening screening of the film Darkest Miriam. The 87 minute film is about Librarian and her grief and her relationship with her younger immigrant boyfriend. We recognized all the scenes in Toronto, especially the Allen Gardens branch of the Toronto Public Library.  The film was preceded by the short film DO US PART.  Both feature film and short filmmakers in attendance took part in a Q & A following the screenings.

The Canada Film Festival – CFF – has a schedule online canfilmfest.ca with films during the day and in the evenings until Saturday, March 29. Filmmakers are in attendance for Q & A at the film screenings.  The 2025 CFF promises to be an interesting and exciting one with a wide selection of Canadian films.  Enjoy! And be proud to be Canadian! Help support these filmmakers!
