Day 4 – TIFF 2025 – Sunday, September 7

A really early wake up call for the ROOFMAN screening at Scotiabank. This riveting film with brilliant acting by Channing Tatum and Oscar nominee Kirsten Dunst, by Oscar-nominated director Derek Cianfrance, keeps the audience glued to find out what will happen next.

Based on true events, The McDonalds thief  hides nightly for months at a Toys R Us store. The ideas are ingenious – his use of a baby monitor to acquire the password to access info on store computers and how the upper roof interior is used as his hiding and sleeping space. The thief even forms a romantic relationship with the woman from Toys R Us by attending her church and becoming involved with her family.  A surprising ending to this great film based on a real life story. Excellent film.

Red Carpet at Roy Thomson Hall – HAMNET

On the Red Carpet were Screenwriter and Director Chloé Zhao for the Canadian Premiere from the United Kingdom, starring Paul Mescal as William Shakespeare and actress wife Jessie Buckley.  Also were the young actors Jacobi Jupe and Noah Jupe – the sons of Coronation Street actress Katy Cavanagh. Producers, costume-makers, influencers graced this lively Red Carpet. Hamnet later went on to win the TIFF’s People’s Choice Award at the TIFF 2025 festival.

Couture shimmered with high fashion and elegance, while Eternity’s cast brought quiet sophistication, posing gracefully under the flashes with Angelina Jolie in the spotlight for all her adoring fans.

TIFF Lightbox Cinemas – Screening Black Rabbit with introduction by actors Jude Law and Jason Bateman. With filmmakers Zach Baylin, Kate Susman for the WORLD PREMIERE.

Jude Law and Jason Bateman star as brothers and co-founders of a trendy, busy New York restaurant, each working chaotically in their own way to keep their business and themselves afloat through the restaurant bar chaos. The acting is great and the storyline fascinating. We see their dynamic as brothers and then as business owners… always an issue. Fear and action with a lot of suspense.

Jason Bateman and Jude Law shared their experiences at Q & A at the film screening.  Always such an excellent having actors and filmmakers in appearance and speaking at films.

Nuremberg, shifting the tone with its serious historical weight and commanding presence. Between the clicking cameras, bright lights, and perfectly timed smiles, it was a night that captured TIFF’s mix of art, celebrity, and cinematic storytelling. Shooting it all — from designer gowns to heartfelt reunions — was both exhausting and exhilarating, the kind of night that reminds me why I love festival season.

5PM: Red Carpet for French film NINO at TIFF Lightbox. Very popular Quebec actor Théodore Pellerin is once again back at TIFF and this time with director Pauline Loquès. They graced us (2 photographers) with their presence.   (NINO film viewed Day 1 )

6:10. We had the opportunity to attend and get to the next red carpet for Medowlarks with the full cast who were in attendance.

8:00. Film screening  EPIC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT,  screening at Scotiabank

In attendance was director Baz Luhrmann who made an appearance before the film, throwing out promotional hoodies into the audience to everyone’s delight and to approximately twenty lucky recipients who caught them!

The film was an amazing collection of concert footage, a showcase of Elvis singing one song at different concerts over the years. Beautiful clips and close-ups, couldn’t be any closer shots of very handsome Elvis.

As an audience we feel his emotions. Concert clips show lots of female fans reaching out to Elvis and getting passionate kisses from The King. Great music making for a fantastic film for Elvis fans, music fans, as well as concert photographers and film documentary makers. Amazing.

Eternity’s cast brought quiet sophistication, posing gracefully under the flashes of the red carpet and with the last red carpet event of the evening, but we did attend events in between the events and the movies:

1-Obscure Lounge
at The Second City by the Waterfront

2-Watson’s -Florida film event and reception -388 Richmond

3-Quebec a Tiff -Hotel Ocho on Spadina

4-Cinesend & Arthouse Convergence Sunday Social@Cinesend on Wellington

5-We ended the night at The Dorset for the last TIFF event for the evening
