A more beautiful evening of music couldn’t be imagined… on December 15th Loreena McKennitt graced us with her presence on stage. The UNDER A WINTER’S MOON – A concert of Carols and Tales at Koerner Hall was performed in Stratford, London and very happily in Toronto. Sold out performances. Saturday, Dec 13th 8pm, Sunday December 14th at 2pm and 7pm.
The concert featured Dylan Thomas’ A Child’s Christmas in Wales narrated by Cedric Smith. Celtic tunes, bursts of energy and inspired spontaneity of the folk circuit. Loreena McKennitt, with her beautiful vocals in her flowing gown and lovely, long hair, played Harp, Piano and Accordion. Christin Dennis Gzhiiquot – Sky Woman. Caroline Lavelle – Cello, Recorder and Backing Vocals. Cait Watson – Whistle. Pete Watson – Guitars. Errol Fischer – Fiddle. Romano DiNillo – Percussion. Jeffrey “Red” George – Winner Diamonds and Flute. Cedric Smith – A Child’s Christmas in Wales.
The concert was a soothing mix of Celtic, Indigenous and Welsh cultures, blended with strands of the natural world. The Haudenosaunee Creation Story, “Sky Woman” Yaa’taenhtsihk narrated by Christin Dennis Gzhiiquot or Fast Moving Cloud (Aamjiwnaang First Nation), and the seasonal reflection “Winter Diamonds”composed and recited by Jeffrey “Red” George (Kettle Point First Nation) “While there is much to learn and appreciate about the meanings and origins of these stories and carols, we are delighted to bring you these offerings on the eve of the winter solace, with the promise of lengthening days and growing light.”
For sale in Koerner Hall’s foyer area (with its bar and gorgeous view of the outdoors) for sale were McKennitt’s albums and CD’s. Beautiful cards created by Indigenous artist Jeffrey “Red” George were also available for sale.

It was truly a beautiful evening of music on a very cold night in Toronto. The music and storytelling warmed our hearts. A wonderful way to start to celebrate the holiday season.
