Winter wonderland themed Mirror Ball at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel was a great success this year as it filled the evening with snowy displays, auctions, great food and wine, and heart-warming speakers from the “Look Good Feel Better” and “Facing Cancer” programs. The ball was a successful fundraiser for these two cancer support programs and was the perfect way to connect beauty and hope as one.
The winter wonderland theme was amazing and provided the guests with a relaxing, calming and soothing mood while pairing up right on time for the first snowfalls of the season! Contrasting with the chilly ambiance, we were served with four warm meals- all of which, I must say, were exquisite and delicious. How often is it that Char is served as your appetizer?
The guest speakers of the night were both funny and heart-warming. The comedic MC, Jessica Holmes provided the event with laughs and chuckles as she introduced the auctions, the videos, and dances. She even performed a little song! Dionne “Warrior” Warner, 8 time cancer survivor also gave a few heart-warming words. Her astonishing strength and courage is inspiring to all. Cancer can be beaten, and although many people lose their battles, (I personally have lost a few loved ones to cancer), it just shows how we all have the strength, courage, and right to fight for our lives and for the lives of others struggling with it. Dionne is proof of that strength that exists in all of us, but she takes it to another level by stepping forward and speaking up.
After the dinner there was an after party in one of Fairmont’s other ballroom. The DJ’s were 4Korners and they filled the room with an energetic vibe through their mixes. It was great to see everyone on their feet and dancing- including Dionne! Snacks included a live, yet modern do-it-yourself Smore’s campfire and an open bar with a large variety of alcoholic beverages.
Overall, the Mirror Ball was an amazing experience and for a great cause. I congratulate its success, and for anyone fighting Cancer, don’t give up! Keep fighting!
