Haiyanto – Typhoon Haiyan Event @ Arcadian Court

Event Date: Sun Dec 8 2013

In early November, Typhoon Haiyan struck South-East Asia, particularly the Philippines, killing thousands and leaving many injured, hungry, and homeless. In dire times, Canada has proven itself as a country of kindness and generosity, donating money, medical aid and various amenities. The Haiyan TO charity gala has successfully raised over $30,000 for those in need.

I was awed by the vibrant, vivid red and blue themed Arcadian Room (red and blue for the colours of the Philippines flag), incredibly elegant dining tables and elaborate floral centerpieces, the symbolic logo for Haiyan TO, and the sweet stops laden with a variety of candies, finely baked cookies and other delectable desserts.

Guests were served three courses of traditional Filipino cuisine while special guests and entertainers took the floor. Among the special guests were John Carmichael and the talented entertainers Christopher Dallo, Martha Joy, VerSes, Fusion Events Orchestra and DJ Anthony Pelimiano. One of my personal favourites was a rendition of The Prayer by Dallo and Joy!

After the dinner, Fusion Events Orchestra finished off the night with non-stop music and dance.

It is always great to see Canadians behave like global citizens and provide aid to those who need it around the world. Because of our diverse culture, events such as the Haiyan TO gala bring all these ethnicities and cultures together.
