Politics Of Fashion/Fashion Of Politics – Wed. Sept.18th, 2014 @Design Exchange

The Design Exchange presents”Politics Of Fashion/Fashion Of Politics”, in conjunction with fashion icon Jeanne Beker and main sponsor Mantella Corporation.

Running from Sept. 18th 2014 to Jan 25th 2015, the exhibition is a showcase of over 200 works and explores how design is showcased in society from the past to the present day.

Canadian fashion designer, Jeremy Laing spearheadedthe visually captivating exhibition during the media preview of the exhibit.

There are five themes that are presented:

  1. Ethics/Activism
  2. War/Peace
  3. Consumption/Consumerism
  4. Campaign/Power Dressing
  5. Gender/Sexuality.

Some of the notable historic fashion pieces on display included: Margaret Trudeau’s wedding dress, Anarchy in the U.K. Sex Pistols shirt (circa 1975) from Seditionaries clothing designed by Vivienne Westwood & Malcolm McLaren, Plastic, Glass and Linen Jacket from Chloe-Stella McCarntey 2000 Collection.
