2014 JUNO Nominee Alysha Brilla “Womyn” Album Release Party @ The Painted Lady (Wednesday, Oct 1)
Walking from my office located in the business district of downtown Toronto, to an intimate bar, The Painted Lady, I found myself feeling a little overdressed…but actually relaxed. As I made my way past the check-in and grabbed a seat at the bar, I took in the vibrant atmosphere. There were smiles all around me, people chatting, everyone saying hi as I made eye contact. It kind of reminded me of a small town atmosphere.
Everyone greeting everyone, and just being friendly. I struck up a quick conversation with “John”, the gentlemen next to me and found out he was quite a fan of Alysha. He had been listening to her for the last four years, and quite enthralled by her rock to reggae type music.
As I grabbed a drink and started talking to random people around me, I find that Alysha has quite an amazing following. CBC had a few tables of their own with their television crew. Breakfast Television had her on that morning at 7am for an interview. A number of audience people were also singers that were amazed at her abilities.
By 8:00pm, she arrived on stage. As I listened to her, I started to understand why she is becoming a rising star. Her lyrics are from personal experiences; her singing was enjoyable with an amazing beat. She mixed up her performance with a little reggae.
As I left The Painted Lady, I thought, what an amazing evening. I was able to witness a live concert in such an intimate venue. I know in a few more years, I may have to pay a fortune to listen to her sing in a larger concert setting. Alysha Brilla, a name definitely to remember!!
