THE 10th ANNUAL BOOK LOVER’S BALL @Toronto Reference Library (Feb 5, 2015)

by AJ Lam

The Book Lover’s Ball celebrated its tenth anniversary of bringing together book lovers and top literary talent amongst the innovative stacks of the Toronto Reference Library, with its first black tie gala and after party at Canada’s only public reference library.

With over $3.5 million raised since 2006, of which over half a million dollars were raised last year, it is the Toronto Public Library Foundation’s premier fundraising event.

CBC’s Mary Ito greeted the gala “glitterati” on the Red Carpet as the Canadian literary who’s who enjoyed limitless libations and savoury hors d’oeuvres such as luscious lobster rolls by celebrity chef and author Jamie Kennedy.

After spirited literature re-enactments, the sartorial splendour of 900 guests ascended the spiral stairs to dine.

Esteemed authors, such as controversial writer and former newspaper publisher Conrad Black, mingled and dined with other literary aficionados in the recently rejuvenated Toronto Reference Library.

This black tie ball and after party celebrate Toronto Public Library and its 100 branches that span the world’s most multicultural city and anchor its many diverse neighbourhoods.

Funds raised go to the Toronto Public Library Foundation to help Toronto Public Library grow a city of readers, develop a city of learners and connect a city of creators.
