20th ANNUAL STARLIGHT CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION @Fairmount Royal York (April 18th, 2015)
By Bill Kwan
This year the 20th Annual Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada celebrated with the theme of “Roar Into Our Twenties” and it was a spectacular evening of big band music, flapper dancers, gangsters, models on stilts and the whole hotel decorated like a “Speakeasy”.
It is estimated that 5.5 million dollars is raised yearly towards programs to help the seriously ill children and their families.
Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada is a charitable organization dedicated to bringing laughter, joy and hope back into the lives of children with serious illnesses. For over 20 years, our in-hospital entertainment therapy and out-of-hospital fun family adventure programs have brought smiles to children when they need it most.
Starlight Children’s Foundation partners with experts to improve the life and health of kids and families around the world.
For over 23 years, Starlight Children’s Foundation has been transforming the lives of Canadian children who live with serious illness and their families. What makes us unique is that we are there for the entire journey—from the emergency room to recovery.
While in-hospital, Starlight provides distraction, entertainment and relief from the stress and boredom of hospitalization.
When out-of-hospital, Starlight children benefit from our ‘Escapes’ and ‘Wishes’ programs— giving them an opportunity to leave the ‘sick’ behind, create special family memories and return home with a renewed sense of strength and hope.
Starlight is looking to expand to more hospitals and in more communities across Canada. The need is tremendous—and it is only with the generous support of our donors and partners that we will be able to reach and impact these special children, who so greatly benefit from our programs.
Your support makes our Starlight programs possible – help us reach more of the over one million children in Canada who live with serious illness or life-altering injury.
The dance music was provided by “Magen Boys Entertainment DJ” who had the crowd dancing ’til the wee hours of the morning. The evening began with Cocktails and Hors D’oeuvres with a silent auction.
There were Raffle Tickets, Souvenir Photos, Starlight Bear Sales, and an electric 1920’s celebratory vibe. Entertainment Canada’s Rick Campanelli was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and Nikki Yanofsky co-hosted and provided musical entertainment for the attendees at this gala.
The real party started after the dinner ceremony with patrons entering the “Speakeasy” lounge. Being true to the “Prohibition Era”, the secret word to get in was “Ducky”. There was also a “After Hours Casino” inside the “Speakeasy” to further enhance the era.
We like to thank Cory Stewart of Embrace Disruption PR (EDPR) for the invite and hospitality for this great event.
