February 2013 marks a day in charity history, when a couple of donors (Scott Shallow of Brad Lamb Realty and Sennheiser) presented the Fort York Food Bank with a staggering $10,000 cheque. The Board could not be more grateful, yet also saw so much more potential in that sizable gift of money.
And what began as a generous donation grew into the first annual Lucky Ball, a St. Patrick’s Day-themed party. The Brad Lamb Realty / Sennheiser donation was used to rent a venue and pay for staffing. And these efforts were joined by other visionary companies. Molsons (Heineken) threw in beer for the party. Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) agreed to DJ the event. Whitney Pizale (W Events) and Lindsay Grange (Rethink Breast Cancer) offered their services to plan the party. SheDoesTheCity.com came on as a media sponsor. And Chris Murphy at CIBC stepped up to cover the cost of decor and anything else that was needed.
Driven by dedication and collaboration a dream was realized in less than a month. With 300 influential young professionals in attendance the first Lucky Ball had a successful launch, raising almost $30,000 for Fort York Food Bank. And they’re hoping to raise the bar on Thursday March 2, 2017 for the 5th Annual Lucky Ball taking place at the Amsterdam Brewhouse, 245 Queens Quay West.
