NBA All-Stars and Celebrity Draft in Support of Westpark Health Care (Mar. 31 & Apr 1, 2017)
Charles Oakley and NBA Alumni Jerome Williams (JYD) teamed up with other NBA Alumni and Celebrities to shoot hoops for a good cause. The West Park Healthcare Centre Foundation launched the Tournament of Stars on March 31st & April 1st, 2017, which brought together basketball lovers, celebrities, and West Park Healthcare Centre supporters for an exclusive, fun and exciting two-day event. Proceeds from the Tournament of Stars went to support West Park’s mission of helping patients facing critical injury or illness to reclaim their lives. Basketball enthusiasts from across the community could qualify for the Tournament of Stars by raising a minimum of $10,000 per 3-on-3 team, or $25,000 per 5-on-5 team. The weekend included a Celebrity Draft Party on Friday evening, where each team got to draft a celebrity player, and a round robin basketball tournament on Saturday.
The Photo & Interview opportunities were held on Friday March 31 at the Everliegh Club, 580 King St. West, an exclusive event for all registered team members, sponsors and media, where the teams got the chance to size up the competition, enjoy great food and drinks and pick their celebrity teammate for the tournament.
Other notable people in attendance for this event included; Honorary Chair Jack Armstrong – Sportscaster for TSN and NBA TV Canada; Honorary Commissioner Rod Black – Sports Announcer for TSN and CTV Sports; Celebrity All-Star Team Coach Nav Bhatia – Superfan; Alvin Williams -NBA Alumni, Toronto Raptors; Brad Smith – Former Bachelor Canada, Chopped Canada Host; Chad Owens – Plays for Saskatchewan Rough Riders, Owens played in the 2012 Grey Cup Champion with the Toronto Argonauts and was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2012; Charles Oakley – NBA Alumni, NBA All-Star, NBA All-Defensive First Team, played for Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls; Damon Allen – CFL Alumni and Canadian Football Hall Inductee; Jerome Williams – NBA Alumni, played for Toronto Raptors; Kevin Willis – NBA Alumni, NBA Champion ’93, NBA All-Star, former Toronto Raptor; Leo Stakos – Host FISH TV, Philanthropist and Ambassador; Morris Peterson – NBA Alumni, played for Toronto Raptors, NBA All-Rookie First Team; Muggsy Bogues- NBA Alumni, played for Toronto Raptors, Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets; Pooch Hall – Actor, Ray Donovan, The Game; T.J. Ford – NBA Alumni, played for Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks
This was followed up by the Kids Clinic with Jerome Williams at the Goldring Centre, University of Toronto at 100 Devonshire Place on Saturday, April 1. The Basketball Tournament is where the teams will team up with their drafted celebrity. The fun started for all the moment the players hit the court in this exciting tournament, including a 3-point competition and an All-Star Game between the top fundraising teams – joined by top individual fundraisers, against the Celebrity All-Star team!
