By Kimberly Samnang
On Tuesday, July 25 at the TD Tower, Honey Jam hosted a reception sponsored by TD to celebrate their 22nd anniversary and introduced the lineup for the 2017 Concert! Hailing from Montreal, Toronto, Thunder Bay, Brampton, Vancouver and Nova Scotia, the artists were announced at the official launch and press conference.
Canada’s longest-running all-female artist programme is celebrating more than two decades of providing networking, educational, mentoring and showcasing opportunities for young artists. Each year at this event, they feature a guest artist who shares her journey through the industry followed by a Q&A. This year, courtesy of Entertainment One, they were excited to welcome LeToya Luckett!
The Grammy-award winning singer, songwriter and actor, sold over 25 million records with Destiny’s Child and won 2 Grammy Awards. Her platinum solo debut LeToya featured the hit single, “Torn,” and topped the Billboard 200 Chart. Luckett’s sophomore album, Lady Love debuted at #1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart and #12 on the Billboard 200.
In May 2017, Luckett ended her eight year hiatus from music with the successful release of her third studio album, Back 2 Life, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes R&B/Soul Chart and is currently a top 10 record on the Urban AC charts.
Although making hits is her first love, Luckett continues to hone her craft as an actor. Her first acting job was the lead in the film Preacher’s Kid, followed by a role opposite Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher in the film Killers. LeToya was a cast member in the series Single Ladies and has held recurring roles in the acclaimed HBO series Treme and Ballers opposite The Rock; the FOX drama Rosewood alongside Morris Chestnut; and in OWN’s hit series Greenleaf alongside Oprah Winfrey, Lynn Whitfield and Keith David. At the Cannes Film Festival, it was announced that LeToya will play the legendary Dionne Warwick in a new biopic. LeToya was also cast to star with Luke James and Aisha Hinds for the pilot of USA’s anthology series Unsolved: The Murders of Biggie and Tupac.
The Honey Jam Concert will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at The Mod Club at 722 College Street, Toronto, Ontario. For more info check out: http://www.honeyjam.com
