CAFTCAD Celebrates Costume 2017 During TIFF@Windsor Arms Hotel-Thurs.,Sept.14th,2017
By Sorin Sim
This year’s CAFTCAD showing at the Windsor Arms hotel presented a plethora of costumes and design from the world’s hottest upcoming films and TV programs! The Canadian Alliance of Film & Television Costume Arts & Design (CAFTCAD) is an association of individuals interested in promoting costume design for film, television and media from both an artistic and technical perspective. The goal is to enrich the Toronto community with a national organization that is inclusive of experience and talent. It originally began from a collective desire to bring together costume professionals from all corners of the industry, regardless of union affiliation. Through shared interest, respect and passion for the costume arts, CAFTCAD provides its members with an online and physical forum, promoting open discussion, shared learning, resources and professional networking.
This year’s event presented a wonderfully hosted event which fused the value of costume arts and design as a powerful element in the collaborative process of film-making. Costumes from the latest Star Trek: Discovery TV show wowed attendees and fellow designers alike. Elaborate organic designs and non-invasive stitching were some of the most honorable mentions! Costumes from the Vampire horror drama “The Strain” also turned heads with eerily realistic masks and elaborate costumes. While hosted by the locally famous Windsor Arms hotel where the drinks kept being coming and lamb chops were to die for, I am already looking forward to next year’s CAFTCAD event!
We would like to thank Francisca Alvarado from Film Festival CAFTCAD for the invitation to this event.
