2019 Motion Ball Toronto Gala presented by Grand Marnier @Liberty Grand Fri., Feb 1, 2019
By Sally Warburton
The Liberty Grand was the perfect location for the 2019 Motionball. Motionball is a huge fundraising event for Special Olympics Canada Foundation. Money raised helps Canadians with intellectual disabilities participate in programs offered by Special Olympics Provincial chapters. Over 45,000 athletes across Canada have had the chance to participate in sports organized by Special Olympics Canada.
Friday, February 1st, at The Liberty Grand was alive! Over 2400 guests and as many as 100 volunteers as well as 35 Special Olympic athletes were warmed up from the bitter cold outside. Even Tessa Virtue, Canadian Olympic skater was among the guests! A fantastic mix of people who’d come with friends, with colleagues, with their partner or solo. Some were annual attendees – for others it was their first time… but it sure won’t be their last!
The fun evening starting at 9pm was for people watching, seeing beautiful fashion, time with friends, laughing, sampling the drinks – complimentary wine, beer, soft drinks or supporting the drink sponsor by having Grand Marnier. There were huge bars located throughout Liberty Grand including Grand Marnier and Appleton Rum specialty cocktail bars. Delicious cupcakes from Prairie Girl Bakery were enjoyed. There were 8 Entertainment acts and DJ’s in the two ballrooms courtesy of Entertainment sponsor Molson Coors. You could have photos taken by the 50th year sign, 3 Photo Booths and a new Portrait Studio. At the Air Canada photo booth photos were taken with friends or with the flight attendants. Real flight attendants… we asked to confirm!
Fascinating checking out the extensive Silent Auction with 150 items – any sports enthusiast’s dream – Leafs hockey and Raptors shirts, game tickets, framed pictures, rock music, golf, autographed items, trips to warm destinations, memorabilia… there was something for everyone! Throughout the venue raffle tickets were being sold for a flight for two anywhere with Air Canada. The music of the bands was fantastic – two very dynamic bands with a good vibe of dance music. At midnight trays of scrumptious sandwiches from Pita Pit were devoured. Those hit the spot! Giving more energy to continue on… VIP’s had eaten an elegant sit down meal earlier in the evening finishing at 9pm.
To make sure everyone arrived and got home safely LYFT was a sponsor and offered a Motionball discount.
2019 Motionball was an amazing evening. A fun, elegant event for a wonderful cause – Special Olympics Canada Foundation. We all look forward to next year’s fundraiser. Mark the 2020 date and make sure you get tickets before they sell out, once available.
We would like to thank Duet PR for the invitation to this event.
