Four Chords and a Gun@The Fleck Theatre-Wed.,April 10th,2019
“Four Chords and a Gun”, John Ross Bowie’s (Big Bang Theory Fame) play about the Ramones and Phil Spector, arrived in Toronto and on the posters it stated that this would not be a musical, as we attended the theatre piece about the legendary punk band -The Ramones.
But actor-turned-playwright John Ross Bowie, author of the play in question, is serious about his devotion to the now legendary New York group and hopes his show helps others to see them as more than “cartoons.”
Four Chords and a Gun, which got its Canadian premiere in Toronto on April 2, tells the story of the fractious period the band spent making 1980 album End of the Century with “Wall of Sound” producer Phil Spector. And yes, Spector — who is now serving a prison sentence for the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson — was alleged to have pulled a gun on the Ramones in the studio.
Toronto will be the play’s third host city after a three-and-a-half-month run in Los Angeles and a production in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It will transfer with its Canadian cast to a still to-be-announced “major U.S. city” after that.
We would like to thank Starvox Entertainment for the invitation to this event.
