The 5th Annual All-Star Gala In Support Of SickKids@Toronto Event Centre-Fri.,June 21st,2019

The 5th Annual All-Star Gala was held on Friday night with over 1,000+ guest.  It was a glamorous, star-studded night to raise funds for congenital heart disease research at the Hospital for Sick Children.

This year the Gala took place at the CNE Toronto Events Centre on Friday, June 21st, once again bringing together an assortment of celebrities, professional athletes and personalities from hockey and other sports, including emcee Jack Armstrong from TSN/Toronto Raptors Announcer. All net proceeds went to Dr. Seeds research project on congenital heart disease at the Hospital for Sick Children as one of Toronto’s most high profile galas of 2019.

The evening featured a cocktail style reception with open bar until 2am, silent auction and live performances by The Reklaws and DJs!

Past attendees include TSN hosts Cabbie Richards and Jay Onrait, and athletes including Brett Connelly, PK Subban, Connor Brown, Morgan Rielly, Tyler Seguin and Mitch Marner.

It has long been known that children undergoing surgery as newborns for congenital heart disease (CHD) are at significant risk for adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Dr. Mike Seed, Head of Cardiology at SickKids, believes the root for neurological deficiency in children with congenital heart disease develops in the prenatal period, as they are not receiving enough oxygen to the brain, while in the womb, due to a malformed heart. Dr. Seed and his colleagues are piloting a trial to test the potential of providing additional oxygen to pregnant mothers at 20 weeks gestation, for the remainder of their pregnancy, to determine if an increase of oxygen will improve neurological outcomes for these babies. All funds raised by the All-Star Gala for this project will be matched in full by a prestigious Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) grant from the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR).

As a national charity, SickKids Foundation not only invests in the important work taking place at SickKids, it also invests in national and international initiatives to benefit children in Canada and around the world. This commitment is true to the spirit of the Foundation’s founders, who articulated a vision for the Foundation that went well beyond the hospital walls 40 years ago.

We would like to thank Jennifer Love and Lara Watson of DUET PR for the invitation to this event.
