Paul James Tribute to Bob Dylan @ Hughes Room – Mar. 7, 2020
by Wayne Baggs
Bob Dylan has so many iconic songs. One night would be adequate to play but a few. On March 7, 2020 at Hugh’s Room Live, Paul James’ first ever ’Tribute to Bob Dylan’ began.
Not merely does Paul James throw the odd Dylan song or two into his live shows, he has shared the stage with and befriended Bob. Tonight it’s all Dylan. Great songs with the emphasis on authenticity and commitment to the music. How can you go wrong? Well, you couldn’t!
Having seen Paul on many occasions, I had a certain expectation going there. Wildly surpassed. Great song choices with a performance that expressed a clear love of the music put it over the top. This to me is one of the most memorable shows I’ve had the pleasure to attend lately.
From Highway 61 Revisited to Tangled Up in Blue to Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat to the audience participation of Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, the sold-out crowd was fully engaged. Paul always the entertainer does Dylan very well thank you! Hey he made it through Subterranean Homesick Blues without notes, cool!
Something I will go see again if it comes about. P.S. That good! What was the holdup? WB.
