Artist Insight:
Sondra Meszaros
Sondra Meszaros explores counter narratives of female sexuality by deconstructing and reconstructing identities. In the bodies of work Damned and Strange Spot from 2019, her images disturb, renegotiate and reclaim the representation of women and the female figure.Sondra Meszaros, Damned #10, 2010, mixed media, digital pigment print on rag paper, 52 x 41 in.Meszaros passionately collects erotica from the 1920s and 30s and uses images in her collection, reworking them to uncover the power dynamic and inequality in the history of image making. She paints, tears and cuts to produce her final artwork that questions desire.Installation view at Corkin Gallery, 2019Top: Sondra Meszaros, strange spot #1, 2019, oil pastel on digital pigment print on rag paper, 53 x 41 in.
