Moving and Inspiring Documentary NASRIN – directed by Jeff Kaufman Opens-June 15!
Reminder – the opening date for the HULU streaming launch of the moving and inspiring documentary NASRIN – directed by Jeff Kaufman is June 15!
Survivor, fighter, resilient, inspiring, fierce, unstoppable, and humanitarian are the key words that many have described Iranian political prisoner Nasrin Sotoudeh. She is one of the world’s most courageous human rights lawyers, an activist and a political prisoner, and she is a leading figure in Iran’s remarkably resilient women’s rights movement.Narrated by Academy Award® Winning actress Olivia Colman, and filmed in Iran by women and men who risked arrest to make this film, this urgent documentary will be available on HULU starting on June 15.
This June date is particularly important, as this month (June 13 specifically) marks the third year of Nasrin’s wrongful incarceration in Iran’s worst prison. During these three years in prison, she has survived Covid-19, heart failing issues, a 40-day hunger strike and some of the most inhumane living conditions. The release of this incredible film on June 15 – is a reminder of her long standing fight for justice and her perseverance.
We are hopeful that you, as a journalist, will be able to do a story, an article, an op-ed or coverage on the film and her life during this month and help to highlight her life and her plight.
For interviews, we can arrange to have the filmmaker Jeff Kaufman and his producer Marcia S. Ross and possibly Nasrin’s husband Ressa – who is living in Iran still with his two children. Their lives are also constantly at risk, as they are being targeted and watched by the national government. Moreover, the situation in Iran is constantly changing with an questionable upcoming election that will only amplify this authoritarian regime.
The global campaign #FreeNasrin still continues, as more and more people are becoming aware of her situation and her unstopping battle.
We truly need to get her story out so that everyone across the globe can help to #FreeNasrin. Millions of people from over 200 nations had called for Nasrin’s release including US President Elect Joe Biden; journalist Christiane Amanpour; journalist/activist Gloria Steinem; author Margaret Atwood; Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, and many others.
I am hopeful that you can find a way to include any coverage to be part of this important historic time.
