He Came In With It
Please join The Friends of the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA and the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital Board of Advisors for an Open Mind program with Miriam Feldman, author of the new critically acclaimed book, He Came with It – A Portrait of Motherhood and Madness.

He Came In With It is the story of how mental illness can affect an entire family and spiral it into chaos. When their teenage son Nick is diagnosed with schizophrenia, the O’Rourke’s perfect life in their idyllic well-established Los Angeles neighborhood careens permanently off course. Miriam, and her husband Craig, both artists, and their four children, are hit by one catastrophe after another: violence, evictions, arrests, a suicide attempt, a near-drowning, even cancer and a brain tumor that play against the backdrop of a wild teenage bacchanal of artmaking and drugs.

He Came In With It is written by Miriam Feldman as a legacy of, and for, Nick. Yvonne Yang, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Psychosis Clinic at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration; Section Chief, Psychosis Section, West Los Angeles VA; Assistant Clinical Professor, Semel Institute; and past recipient of the Chancellor Block Friends of Semel Scholar Award will join Miriam Feldman in conversation.
