ALONE by Paul Tom35th FICFA Opening Film IN THEATRES NOVEMBER 12

Picbois Productions is proud to present Alone, the debut documentary feature directed by Paul Tom (Baggage), selected as the opening film of the 35th edition of the Festival international de cinéma francophone en Acadie (FICFA). The screening will take place on Thursday, November 11 at 8 p.m. at the Théâtre l’Escaouette in Moncton, hosted by filmmaker Paul Tom, one of the protagonists, Alain, screenwriters Julie Boisvert and Mylène Péthel,as well as producers Marie-Pierre Corriveau and Karine Dubois. The film, written by Julie Boisvert, Mylène Péthel and Paul Tom, follows Afshin, Alain and Patricia who left their home countries, alone. As unaccompanied minors, they had to find the strength to start over in Canada, in hopes to live a better life. Produced and distributed by Picbois Productions, Alone will open in Quebec theatres on November 12 and several screening events will be organized with the film’s team in attendance. It will then be broadcast (in French) on Télé-Québec on December 1st. |

Mixing real-life footage and animated sequences, Alone is a tribute to hope: how can a child manage to reinvent himself in a new country, after having left everything behind, even his parents? About the filmmakerPaul Tom is a filmmaker specializing in animated and documentary films. He is also a professional editor, creator of museum exhibition videos, and instructor for cultural mediation projects within various communities. Born in a Thai refugee camp of Cambodian parents, he is particularly interested in exploring themes related to the construction of self-identity, family relationships, and the use of silence as a means of communication.
