By Sally Warburton

Saturday night was a fashion art event! The Small Arms Building, a spacious event venue, is located at 1352 Lakeshore Rd. East at Dixie Road in southeast Mississauga. MC’s for this unique evening of Fashion and Art were Daniel G. of World Class Sales Agency.and Sasha Stoltz of Sasha Stoltz Publicity.

The Fashion Show included Atelier Folk, Nana Couture and Fearless Crown Clothing. Designer Jaragon  presented his pieces directly from Milan.  Artist Max Jamali  shared his Diamond dust encrusted works of art.  Artist Stella Jurgen showcased her latest work from painted canvas to create material for wearable designer pieces.  Indigenous artist Keitha Keeshig Tobias @keithakeeshigtobias and Indigenous historian Barry Gilbert  of the Mississauga of the New Credit displayed artwork depicting the horrors of residential school and the diseases, smallpox and TB, which killed thousands. Keitha Keeshig Tobias’ Red Dress was on display. Barry Gilbert spoke passionately on the runway about Indigenous, homeless youth and our continued need for support. The Indigeneous artwork and talk gave us much on which to reflect….and act upon.

Celebrity graffiti artist Diogo Snow displayed his artwork on both canvas and winter jackets.  Diogo Snow transformed a beautiful donated white bridal gown worn by a model into an exquisite piece of graffiti art…right before our eyes on the fashion runway!  Diogo’s work is part of collections owned by Drake, Kanye West (Ye) Jay-Z and more. To add to the evening, there were dynamic musical performances by Delon Om with David Neale, and then Deena Theodore. Throughout the day there was a market with booths from artists and designers and following the fashion show was the After Party.

“We Are the World” is presented by Lakeview Community Partners Limited, MDC Global, City of Mississauga and Liuna Local 183. President & Founder Leslie Silvestri.
