The Rolling Stones – Unzipped @ THEMUSEUM. Downtown Kitchener
By Wayne Baggs
The Rolling Stones – Unzipped at THEMUSEUM. In downtown Kitchener, THEMUSEUM is a new experimental museum. No dusty objects or velvet ropes. Being a premier cultural destination for presenting fresh, inspired content from around the globe, this is a perfect match for the North American premier of Unzipped.
What is The Rolling Stones – Unzipped? Easy, it is the first international exhibition by and about the Rolling Stones. Having toured Europe, Asia and Australia, it has now arrived for our pleasure and its North American debut in Kitchener. This exhibition features hundreds of original Stones artifacts and memorabilia, offering the most comprehensive and immersive insight into the band’s nearly sixty-year existence. With over 300 original objects from the Stones personal collection, this is a celebration of counterculture, recognizing the impact the Rolling Stones has had on music, art and other expressions.
Original works on display from the likes of Andy Warhol, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Dior, Martin Scorsese, it’s not just for Stones fans. For those that are, there is a realistic reconstruction of their Chelsea flat “Edith Grove”. A pigsty as described by Richards. A replica of the Stones recording studio. Rare instruments such as Charlie Watts’ Ludwig kit used from 65 to 68. Iconic costumes worn by Mick, as seen in the Gimme Shelter film. A must see for a Stones fan. A great exhibit for any fan of rock music and the arts. This is a once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience. It’s worth the drive to Kitchener. The Rolling Stones – UNZIPPED runs until Feb 27, 2022.
We would like to thank Madison Lambden and Wemimo Onikan for the invitation to the Unzipped event.
