SPIRA at Clermont-FerrandBelle River (Guillaume Fournier, Samuel Matteau and Yannick Nolin) and Ousmane (Jorge Camarotti) selected in official competition
Quebec City- SPIRA is proud to present two films in official competition at the 44th edition of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the world’s largest cinematic event dedicated to short films, to be held from January 28 to February 5, 2022, in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The film Belle River by Guillaume Fournier, Samuel Matteau and Yannick Nolin will be screened as a World Premiere, while Ousmane by Jorge Camarotti will have its international debut. After Laissez les bons temps rouler and Acadiana, filmmakers Guillaume Fournier, Samuel Matteau and Yannick Nolin team up again to propose Belle River, the last part of their Louisiana trilogy, the result of five years of continuous creation. The short documentary takes a look at Louisiana’s land and its peaceful inhabitants, both of which find themselves threatened with extinction by the emergence of the climate crisis. The film is selected for the lab competition, which brings together the most daring works, the same section in which Acadiana was screened in 2019.
Presented as a World Premiere at TIFF and a Quebec Premiere at FNC, the fictional short film Ousmane by Jorge Camarotti stars Issaka Sawadogo in the role of an immigrant feeling uprooted, who comes to the aid of a lonely and confused elderly neighbour. It will be one of the 77 films presented in the international competition, chosen from 6,200 short films viewed by the programming team.
