Production Entity BLK MGC Content Commences Festival Campaigns for Three Newly Completed Short Films The First, HALLELUJAH, World Premieres at Sundance

The first festival appearance from new production entity BLK MGC Content’s slate of three shorts and the world premiere of the BLK MGC Content production HALLELUJAH, produced by Duran Jones, written and directed by Victor Gabriel.Billed as a “traumedy,” HALLELUJAH is a deft, beguiling clash between darkness and light. After being stuck with the guardianship of their annoying, bookworm nephew, two brothers in Compton, California, must decide if they are willing to take on the responsibility of becoming his guardians.WHO:HALLELUJAH writer-director Victor Gabriel. Gabriel is a writer-director who has turned to filmmaking as a way for him to wrestle with his own suffering and the suffering of others through the lens of humor. He holds an M.A. in Clinical Psychology and works as a marriage and family therapist with survivors of trauma in Compton, Watts, and South Central Los Angeles.Gabriel recalls, “Several years ago my little brother was shot and killed in an act of gang violence. Death is the ultimate hindsight…it is only through the love of my community, and those who have taken care of me that I was able to heal, and to go through. This movie is for them. And in memory of Oscar.”HALLELUJAH producer and BLK MGC Content principal Duran Jones. Jones named his company after his first short film BLKMGC, an urban musical based on the shooting death of Tamir Rice at the hands of police. Now a Producing Fellow at the American Film Institute Conservatory, Jones’ goal is to tell stories for people of color that are truthful and impact the global community. A frequent collaborator with Gabriel, Duran was also selected as a 2021 Sundance Feature Film Producers Lab Fellow with Gabriel’s script “The Incredible Heist of Hallelujah Jones.

The Explorer Pass ($50) gives all-access to several digital festival programs including shorts. MORE:HALLELUJAH is one of three films BLK MGC Content has launched on the festival circuit in 2022. BLK MGC Content’s slate also includes Duran’s AFI Conservatory Thesis film FIVE, directed by David Orantes, in which a young Black man who seeks to mend his relationship with his mother after seven years in prison, while devoting himself as a consistent and faithful new convert to Islam. HALLELUJAH and FIVE show promise to become features. Duran himself directed the AFI Conservatory short KANAVU, in which a teenage Indian American girl discovers a newfound appreciation for her Indian culture with help from her deceased grandmother.
