Leith Shares New Single ‘What Does That Make Me’ Announces Debut EP ‘Birthdays in July’ Due April 29th Spotify’s Radar Canada Feature Artist
Leith launched onto the scene last summer with the infectious ‘Love Vibes’, a widescreen collage of crystalline synths and surging guitars that embodies the serenity of fresh love and the nail-biting anxieties that come with embarking on starting something new. A feeling that Leith is all too familiar with, from leaving Canada in her late teens to study music at Berklee College, to moving to London, England in early 2020 just before the pandemic hit. Already heralded as one of Radio 1’s Future Artists, Leith has an astute ability to blend classic song writing and storytelling with modern production elements, inspired by the new places she calls home. Today, Leith shares her brand-new single ‘What Does That Make Me’ and announces her debut EP, Birthdays in July, due April 29th on her own label Big Trees via AWAL. ‘What Does That Make Me’ is another remarkable display of Leith’s frank, diaristic storytelling and is the fourth single to be taken from the highly-anticipated EP. Encapsulating something integral to who Leith is as both an artist and a person – her home, Canada – Birthdays in July explores themes of ‘home and tradition’ from a distance and feeling energized by her new city of London. Featuring ‘Love Vibes’ and the already-released ‘cowboys don’t have friends’ and ‘Big Trees’, Leith tackles topics from bubbling new relationships to weightier subjects, effortlessly weaving between breezy melodic dreamscapes, simmering bass lines and throbbing beats. “What Does That Make Me’ is about being a people pleaser and the mental exhaustion it causes. It’s about the moment you realize you don’t want to do it anymore.” – LeithListen to ‘What Does That Make Me’ here. The new single lands as Spotify launches Leithas their RADAR Canada feature artist for March! Kicking off from today, Leith will grace the cover of RADAR Canada for the whole month and be spotlighted across its platforms, including a Billboard exclusively featuring Leith in her home city of Toronto. When Leith moved to London from Toronto in 2020, she didn’t realize that she’d only come to know four walls and her new street as the pandemic hit. But it meant knuckling down with the bare bones of a few songs that started life in LA, where she lived as a songwriter for two years after studying. Being immersed in a new creative community in London gave Leith the space and time to reimagine her sound, finding inspiration from her new musical family with rising producer Jonah Summerfield and artist Dylan Fraser. She recently got to showcase this sound live when giving two stellar performances as the support slots for both Mosa Wild and Matilda Mann at her Lafayette show. ‘What Does That Make Me’ artwork“an alt-pop trailblazer” – Clash“a confident, fully-fleshed pop joy” – The Line of Best Fit“stunning” – NotionWe would like to thank Samantha Pickard Strut Entertainment for the press release.
