I AM HERE: Home Movies and Everyday Masterpieces.Opening Wed.,April 13th,2022
On April 12 a guided tour through more than 500 years of art making, and the many ways we document our everyday lives was on display at the AGO. Featuring artworks from the Renaissance to the present, by some of the biggest names in art history, I AM HERE: Home Movies and Everyday Masterpieces is an amazing journey through our obsessions – with food, with pets, with celebrity, protest and with music.
Opening April 13, the exhibition features lost-and-found home movies from the Prelinger Archives, alongside celebrated artworks by the likes of David Hockney, Patti Smith, Annie Pootoogook, Arthur Jafa and Keith Haring, as well as snapshots, photo albums, letters, television, grocery lists, and social media, this exhibition brings together a broad range of personal records from different time periods and locales. Highlights include We Buy White Albums (2013-ongoing) by Rutherford Chang; 595 items from Andy Warhol’s personal time capsule; David Hockney’s Santa Monica Boulevard (1978-80); and PANORAMA (2020) by Rick Prelinger.
