In its commitment to placing Durham Region’s top talent squarely in the spotlight it deserves, the Oshawa Music Awards (OMAs) have announced a bonus submission deadline extension for its annual ceremony! Artists and industry members now have until 11:59pm EST on Sunday, May 15th, 2022 to clear their entry for this year’s consideration.

“We have been honoured to receive many wonderful submissions already — which is a testament to our belief in the fact that Durham Region has no shortage of talent in music and the music business,” OMA Director Thao Nghiem shares. “Our creative industry is thriving, despite all the challenges in the past years but, at the same time, we understand some of the submissions need a bit more time to be completed.”

Marking its fifth year, the 2022 OMAs will take place Thursday, September 29th.

New to its range of categories is Music Producer of the Year; additional honours will be extended for Artist or Band of the Year, Emerging Artist or Band of the Year, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Music Teacher of the Year, and Music Industry Leader of the Year.

Especially unique to the OMAs is the category of Durham Song of the Year, as well as local Lifetime Achievement and Hall of Fame nods to honour distinct work within the community; Pickering-native music industry builder and pioneer Ivan Berry is set to be honoured for his work in developing a Black music infrastructure in Canada.

Last year, the Oshawa Music Awards’ private ceremony was hosted by award-winning singer/songwriter Tania Joy and featured some of the Durham Regions’ music elite — including Crown Lands. The 2021 OMAs saw wins for Lindsay Schoolcraft, Gal George Gjurin, Hollowsage and the Three Mile Islanders, and more.

The 2022 Oshawa Music Awards are proudly presented by Durham Region Economic Development and Tourism, 360Insights, Spark Centre, Trent University Durham GTA, and Durham College.

Submissions for the 2022 Oshawa Music Awards are eligible for submission until 11:59pm EST this Sunday, May 15th.
