Week 5 of the 2022 college football season had Georgia breathing a sigh of relief and still be number one in the nation. Georgia returns to the No. 1 spot after its 42-10 win against Auburn in the afternoon edition of the SEC. That spot was previously occupied by Alabama, which dropped to No. 3 after its thrilling defensive stand secured a 24-20 win against unranked Texas A&M in the prime-time game. Alabama winning with their back up QB stepping in.
A close game for TCU as Max Duggan passed for three touchdowns in the second half, to cap a wild second half, and No. 17 TCU beat 19th-ranked Kansas 38-31 on Saturday. Though the Crimson Tide dropped positions in the ranking, it could also be read as getting passed by Ohio State for the No. 2 spot, as C.J.Stroud threw six touchdowns in a 49-20 road win against Michigan State.
