Pink Diamond Gala After Breast Cancer Annual Fundraiser Gala Sun, Dec. 10th, 2022

by Sally W.

The brainchild of Alicia Vianga, the founder and Executive Director of After Breast Cancer (ABC) is now in its 10th year!

The annual Pink Diamond Gala, a big fundraiser event for ABC, took place at the Liberty Grand, Toronto. All the proceeds from the gala go directly to the ABC Care KIT and Thrive Program for women who are financially burdened after having a mastectomy or who will be having surgery. ABC also provides resources to help a woman’s quality of life after breast cancer. Services help to put women at ease who are suffering from breast cancer.

The Liberty Grand was beautifully decorated for the event. Welcoming guests at the front entrance were 3 ballet dancers who posed for guests. The red carpet with its diamond outline was perfect for photos with the ABC backdrop and models in red dresses and flowers.

The event started at 11am. Guests signed in and then mingled in the spacious room while sipping a glass of wine or cocktail and sampling the hors d’oeuvre while checking out the large collection of items in the auction. There was something there for everyone’s interests, along with a raffle. The easy going music from musical duo Duality added to the experience.

In the main dining room, tables for 8 were set up for the over 500 people in attendance. Singer Lyubov Kay with her beautiful voice and the ballerina dancers opened the event. Oderiic then sang fantastically. Roberta Battaglia sang O Canada before speeches started. And she sang again once the gourmet meal had started, offering meat, vegetarian and vegan dish options. Salad and dessert were accompanied with red or white wine. Coffee to finish. All delicious with impeccable service.

Juno Award winning singer, Jully Black, was the highlight. She brought a force of strength to women – those who have breast cancer and those who have a loved one or family member with it. She encouraged guests to dance and to reflect on their own strength. Jully Black’s performance was an awesome one, as always – with her dynamic personality and words of reflection and respect.

Alicia Vianga has developed an excellent support for women suffering from breast cancer in creating After Breast Cancer. It is an organization we must continue to support throughout the year.

We look forward to the 11th year of the Pink Diamond Gala!
