Friends of the CFC, started by famous director Canadian Norman Jewison, celebrated its 35th anniversary with an amazing fun-filled evening of 1980’s inspired fashion and iconic music while graciously raising funds for the upcoming generation of Canadian storytellers. The beautiful summer-like evening’s delicious hors d’oeuvres and dinner, catered by top-notch O&B, were accompanied by top-tier wine and drinks, all on the eastern port waterfront’s Rebel entertainment complex with a splendid skyline view of downtown.

“The CFC Gala: Take 35 Celebrates 35 Years of Empowering Canadian Storytellers – and the 80s.

80s-inspired fundraising gala features entertainment by Shakura S’Aida, DJ Jade Elektra, The Collective and more.”

Friends of the CFC were instructed to “Dust off your favourite 80s threads and join the Canadian Film Centre (CFC) on May 11, 2023 at Rebel in Toronto for The CFC Gala: Take 35, presented by Netflix, a fundraising event in support of the next generation of Canadian storytellers. This year’s gala celebrates CFC’s 35th anniversary and is inspired by the decade the CFC was ‘born’ – the 80s – from the entertainment straight through to the decor, atmosphere and fashion. This annual event brings together 500+ influential guests from all corners of Canada’s entertainment industry to celebrate Canadian creators and content.”

The gala began “with a star-studded red carpet and cocktail reception, before dinner and entertainment, courtesy of Juno-nominated blues vocalist and songwriter Shakura S’Aidra; Gordon Deppe and Sandy Horne of the iconic 80s band, Spoons; The Collective, featuring Cleopatra Williams, and more.” After dinner, gala guests were ushered into “an all-new after party, CFC After Dark, presented by Eggplant Music & Sound, an 80s dance party with DJ Jade Elektra.” The gala also featured “a digital auction filled with exciting packages and experiences, like a private villa in St. Vincent & The Grenadines, weekend getaways at exclusive resorts across Ontario, shopping sprees, spa treatments, unique cultural experiences,” and much more.

“CFC’s annual gala is the organization’s largest fundraising event; funds raised from partnerships, ticket sales and onsite fundraising will be directed towards full entrance scholarships for CFC’s incoming residents and its suite of programs across film, TV, music, screen acting, and digital / immersive media.”

We would like to thank Cory Angeletti-Szasz,Director, Marketing & Communications, CFC for the invitation to this event.
