Sean Jones, Juno Award-winning R&B artist, actor and producer, returned to the legendary El Mocambo in Toronto for a special 80’s Concert Night on April 30. Sean’s gorgeous afro wig and the band all dressed in 80s clothing with guitarist Calvin Beale in 80s themed gym workout wear with headband and sunglasses. Singer and dancer Cleopatra changed her brilliant outfits 3 times – starting with a blue taffeta dress and fluorescent runners. The 2nd floor venue at El Mocambo was packed! Lots of fans were there to welcome Sean and Cleopatra Sean Jones known for Soul In The City, Holiday Soul & Revival at Palais Royale.
Cleopatra Williams known for Rock Symphony at Casa Loma, Kinky Boots & We Will Rock You- and the 5 piece band. The El Mo was transformed into an 80s retro experience! The nostalgia was turned up… big time! A very fun time! The band especially was having fun and created a fantastic atmosphere. Sean Jones’ voice and stage presence as always were excellent. Cleopatra’s singing and dancing was spectacular. Dressed as Janet Jackson where she did a dance number joined by two other dancers for Janet Jackson’s the song What Have You Done Lately?
Evening started before the band hit the stage with internationally renowned DJ Starting From Scratch who set the tone with 80s music while music videos were on the big screen.
This music got the crowd ready to dance all night and vibe to the ultimate 80’s hits at the EVERYTHING 80’S PARTY! Sean asked Ladies & Gentlemen, are we having a good time?! A Cheered YES was the response!
Together, Sean and Cleopatra performed all the 80’s classics known and loved—the anthems, the singalongs and the nostalgic throwbacks. 80’s attire was highly encouraged and the crowd loved it. Neon, denim, leather, leg warmers, big hair… dressed to impress and ready to have fun.
And when the live stage show ended, the night kept going: Afterparty with internationally renowned DJ Starting From Scratch, spinning 80’s favorites with fantastic down memory lane videos of Madonna, Depeche Mode and Prince to name a few. Amazing videos on BIG screen. Groups of friends made it an unforgettable 80’s night. The final song was Dirty Dancing song The Time of My Life, a duet with Sean and Cleopatra. With loud cheers from the crowd, Sean Jones announced that he hoped it would be Volume 1 of several other 80’s themed music and dance nights! We sure hope so, too! Everything 80’s Party at El Mocambo was amazing! Can’t wait for future Volumes!
