Mamadou Dia is a Senegalese director, screenwriter and producer.Following LE PERE DE NAFI (2019), which won two awards at the 2019 Locarno Film Festival, his second feature film, DEMBA (2024), was screened in the Encounters section at the 2024 Berlinale. ATCHA ATCHA is his third film, which follows daily life at the École des Sables, a dance school founded in Senegal and run by the choreographer and dancer Germaine Acogny. The film is being screened in the Fuori Concorso section at the 2026 Locarno Film Festival.

Germaine Acogny was awarded a Golden Lion for her lifetime achievement at the 2021 Venice Biennale. Her students, who have come from all over Africa, are giving it their all to earn not only their degree but also the blessing of "the mother of modern African dance" or "Maman Germaine".
