It was a pretty good night for anyone who spent a lot of time listening to rock radio back in the late ’90s and early 2000s. Staind brought the Break the Cycle 25th Anniversary Tour to the RBC Amphitheatre on September 21, with Hinder, Hoobastank and Seether opening the night.
Hinder were up first and got things going. They’ve still got some songs that people remember, especially “Lips of an Angel,” which got a pretty good reaction.
Hoobastank came next and, of course, “The Reason” was the big one. You could hear the crowd singing along to pretty much every word. Hard to believe that song is 22 years old now.
Seether followed and were probably the heaviest band of the three openers. They sounded good and got the crowd warmed up for what everyone was really there to see.
Staind finally hit the stage and went straight into the songs people wanted to hear. With 25 years of Break the Cycle behind them, there was plenty to choose from. “It’s Been Awhile,” “Outside,” “Fade” and “For You” all went over well, and Aaron Lewis sounded good.
Nothing fancy about this one. Just four bands playing a lot of songs people grew up with. Looking around the crowd, there were a lot of people singing along and probably remembering where they were when these songs first came out.
Not a bad way to spend a Monday night at the Amphitheatre.
